Steelers Champion Elevated Into New Role On Gamedays

Max Starks is your new radio color commentator

Max Starks’ voice will soon become ever-present to fans of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Starks, a two-time Super Bowl champion from his nine-year tenure in Pittsburgh, will step into the booth as the new color commentator for the organization’s gameday broadcasts, as announced by iHeartMedia Pittsburgh on Tuesday. Starks initially joined the Steelers Audio Network in 2021, and transitions from his previous role as sideline analyst to join play-by-play man Rob King.

“I am honored to move from the sidelines into the booth for our game day broadcasts. Thanks to Art Rooney II, the Steelers organization and iHeartMedia for the opportunity,” Starks said, via press release. “There is a long and proud history that I look forward to continuing. I have a tremendous amount of respect and admiration for the men who preceded me, and I hope to bring the same level of excitement and insight that Steelers fans have come to expect from game day broadcasts.”

Starks was preceeded in the role by Craig Wolfley, who passed away after a battle with cancer on March 10.

Starks and King will co-host “In The Locker Room, Presented by Neighborhood Ford Store,” an in-season program that airs weekdays on Steelers Nation Radio and FOX Sports Pittsburgh (970AM).
