The Pittsburgh Steelers have all of their affairs in order prior to training camp opening up on Thursday.
Aaron Rodgers was brought in to be the club’s new starting quarterback, giving them some much-needed stability at the position. DK Metcalf, Jalen Ramsey and Jonnu Smith were acquired in a pair of blockbuster trades to address some of their biggest needs. T.J. Watt even agreed to terms on a contract extension last Thursday, putting an end to a long period of uneasiness regarding his long-term status in Pittsburgh.
It’s not like that uncertainty didn’t take its toll, though.
“I think it’s definitely a weight off our shoulders that we don’t have to continue to keep talking about the T.J. saga, and it’s not even T.J. induced,” Steelers defensive lineman Cam Heyward recently said, as transcribed by Steelers Depot. “It’s just media loves to talk about T.J. I love my dude, and we want to see him get his money, but how many more questions can anybody answer about it? I’m more excited for a guy like Jack Sawyer to get to know T.J. and learn from T.J. — then you have Alex (Highsmith) and (Nick) Herbig.”
Heyward was smart to throw the media under the bus so as not to make it seem like he was peeved at his long-time teammate.
