The Pittsburgh Steelers signed Aaron Rodgers to a one-year, $13.65 million contract in free agency this offseason with hopes that he could take their offense to another level in 2025. In order to do that, he and his new crop of pass catchers are going to have to be on the same page with each other.
Throughout his legendary career, Rodgers has enjoyed a great deal of success when he’s throwing to receivers he’s developed a strong rapport with. It’s why the New York Jets swung a trade with the Las Vegas Raiders for Davante Adams, as they hoped his addition would help Rodgers get their offense off the ground.
While that move didn’t help from a team-wide perspective, it goes to show what Rodgers will be looking for from his new wide receiver room. With a superstar pass catcher, DK Metcalf, being acquired to lead the way, how the air game functions will be key in determining the amount of success the team enjoys next season.
With a couple of months to go until Week 1 rolls around, Rodgers and company are putting in the work needed now in order to get acquainted with one another. In his latest Instagram post, Rodgers showed himself and his new wide receiver room getting some throwing work in during their downtime before training camp.
Rodgers started all 17 games for the Jets in 2024, throwing for 3,897 yards and 28 touchdowns. Despite that, the Jets won just five games during Rodgers’ time under center, resulting in their new regime coming in and deciding to move on from him. Once he got released, the Steelers quickly emerged as his top suitor.
Metcalf, who is part of this group, was picked up in a trade with the Seattle Seahawks to give Rodgers a true No. 1 target in the passing game. Also featured in these photos are Scotty Miller, Ben Skowronek, Pat Freiermuth, Calvin Austin III, and Roman Wilson.
If Rodgers can get comfortable with these guys now, that will allow Pittsburgh’s offense an opportunity to be rolling right when the new season starts. That will be easier said than done, but it’s certainly encouraging to see this group working together before the start of training camp.
