The Pittsburgh Penguins signed some familiar faces and new additions during the first day of free agency on Tuesday.
For returners, the Penguins signed forwards Philip Tomasino and Connor Dewar to one-year contracts, the team announced. Tomasino’s contract is worth $1.75 million, and Dewar’s contract carries an average annual value of $1.1 million.
Tomasino was acquired in November in a trade with the Nashville Predators in exchange for a fourth-round pick in the 2027 NHL Draft. In 50 games with the Penguins, the 6-foot, 190-pound forward tallied 11 goals and 12 assists for 23 points.
Dewar was also acquired in a trade, being dealt by the Toronto Maple Leafs, in a move that included Conor Timmins. The Penguins sent a fifth-round pick in the 2025 NHL Draft to the Maple Leafs.
The 26-year-old skated in 17 games with Pittsburgh, totaling four goals and three assists in an average of 14:27 minutes of ice time.

Pittsburgh also signed former Boston Bruins left-handed defenseman Parker Wotherspoon to a two-year deal, worth $1 million per season, according to Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet.
The 27-year-old played two seasons with Boston, skating in 96 games, scoring one goal and 14 assists. Wotherspoon is a solid skater who can fit into a bottom-pair role with the Penguins.
With the Bruins, he averaged 18:02 of ice time per game in 55 games last season, recording one goal and six assists.
General manager Kyle Dubas said on Monday that Pittsburgh wouldn’t be too aggressive with moves during free agency. The Penguins, though, could add more players as free agency continues.
