Steelers Linked To Dolphins’ Jalen Ramsey In NFL Trade Chatter

Dolphins and Steelers have had informal talks, per report

Trade chatter has been swirling around the Pittsburgh Steelers and a star defender from the Miami Dolphins’ secondary.

According to reports, the Steelers have expressed interest in cornerback Jalen Ramsey, with both sides reportedly holding informal conversations about a possible deal. Ramsey and the Dolphins agreed to part ways this spring, but Miami has yet to find a trade partner.

Ramsey would bring star power and experience to Pittsburgh, including seven Pro Bowls, three First-Team All-Pro nods, and 24 career interceptions. But ESPN’s Adam Schefter threw cold water on the Steelers’ pursuit of the star cornerback during a Tuesday radio appearance.

“I think Pittsburgh checked in,” Schefter said, as transcribed by Jarrett Bailey of Behind the Steel Curtain. “If I had to guess, I would say Pittsburgh would not be the likely destination.”

Ramsey was drafted out of Florida State by the Jacksonville Jaguars with the fifth overall pick in the 2016 NFL draft. He is signed through 2028 after a recent extension that made him the league’s highest-paid cornerback. Any trade would require a team willing to take on the remainder of his contract, which carries a $16.6 million cap hit in 2025.

The Steelers already boast Joey Porter Jr. and Darius Slay in the defensive backfield, which led to speculation that the team could potentially shift Ramsey to a nickel role.

“Ramsey could slot in as the nickel cornerback, similar to what the Baltimore Ravens did with Marlon Humphrey in 2024,” writes Bailey, “which led to Humphrey having an All-Pro season.”

Pittsburgh’s defense ranked ninth in the NFL in 2024, allowing 21.2 points per game while finishing second in the league with a plus-16 turnover differential.

Ramsey missed the Pro Bowl for the first time since 2016, finishing last season with just two interceptions over 17 games.
