The Pittsburgh Steelers have a contract situation to handle with superstar defender T.J. Watt as the 2025 campaign approaches, and that will be the front office’s primary focus ahead of training camp. However, at some point, they are also going to have to hand All-Pro kicker Chris Boswell a new contract too.
Boswell still has two years left on his current deal with the Steelers, so there isn’t necessarily the same urgency as there is with Watt. However, after earning All-Pro First Team honors and a Pro Bowl selection last season, it shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that Pittsburgh will want to keep Boswell in town for the long run.
In 2024, Boswell enjoyed the best season of his career, as he made 41 of his 44 field goal attempts, while also nailing all 35 of his extra-point attempts. Boswell’s 41 made field goals led the league, and his field goal percentage of 93.2% was the second highest of his career, even though he attempted the most field goals in any season of his career.
Even though he’s entering his age 34 season, there’s reason to believe that Boswell still has several years of good football left in front of him. As a result, Steelers insider Mark Kaboly believes that a contract extension between these two sides is inevitable, and that when they do hit the negotiating table, Boswell will become the highest-paid kicker in the league.
“They’ll pay him. Yeah, they probably wait until August again, next year, and probably make him the highest paid kicker,” Kaboly said on “93.7 The Fan.”.

Whether or not Boswell and the Steelers attempt to negotiate a new contract before the new season remains to be seen, but regardless, the team’s intentions seem clear. They want to keep Boswell in town, and they are willing to pay him a pretty penny in order to do so.
For now, figuring out Watt’s contract status is the top priority, as it should be. But once that gets settled, the Steelers could opt to get a step ahead for the upcoming offseason by hammering out a new deal with Boswell that will allow him to finish his career with the only team he’s ever played for.
