Steelers Top NFL Insider’s List Of Favorite Offseason Moves: ‘Got A Steal’

Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers signed a one-year contract

And now we play the waiting game.

With mandatory minicamp in the rearview mirror, the next time we will see the Steelers on the field is July 24, when Pittsburgh hosts its first open training camp practice. Between now and then, there’s a lot of empty time and space to fill. Which brings us to ESPN’s Jeremey Fowler and his list of favorite offseason moves, as voted on anonymously by NFL executives and scouts.

There are plenty from which to choose: Davante Adams to the Los Angeles Rams, Deebo Samuel to the Washington Commanders and Stefon Diggs to the New England Patriots, just to name a few.

But the Steelers sit atop the list, and as you can guess, it’s all about Aaron Rodgers. According to people talking to Fowler, many believe Pittsburgh got a “steal.”

“He’s still throwing the s— out of the ball, honestly,” a veteran NFL offensive coach said to Fowler. “He’s the best quarterback they’ve had since [Ben Roethlisberger]. We will see how the body holds up, but I think he’s going to help them immensely. Look, the mobility is an issue, there’s no doubt,” an AFC executive said, per Fowler. “But where he helps them is with the plus arm strength and the field vision from the pocket. They haven’t had that. I’m not sure that will be enough, but the offense will be at least respectable.”

Rodgers signed a one-year, $13.65 million contract earlier this month. He will take over for Russell Wilson, now with the New York Giants, and Justin Fields, now with the New York Jets.

Rodgers, who spent the last two seasons with the Jets, will face his former team in Week 1 when Pittsburgh visits MetLife Stadium.

But back to Fowler, who also had the Steelers involved in the second-favorite offseason move: George Pickens to the Cowboys. Insiders Fowler talked to love what the deal does for Dallas, with Pickens being paired with Pro Bowl wide receiver CeeDee Lamb.

“Dealing with CeeDee [Lamb] and him opens things up for them,” an NFC East coach told Fowler.

“(Pickens will) be a big piece there,” an AFC executive said, per Fowler. “If you can tap into what he can do fully, his major ability will shine through.”
