Steelers Reportedly Eyeing More Firepower For Aaron Rodgers

Potential Pittsburgh targets include ex-Packers, top tight ends

The Pittsburgh Steelers are going all-in for Aaron Rodgers, and they may not be done loading up around him.

Rodgers, freshly inked on a one-year deal, already has DK Metcalf in his arsenal. But with nearly $32 million in cap space still in play, Pittsburgh’s front office is widely rumored to be eyeing more help. The team has already explored the trade market for veteran tight ends like Kyle Pitts and Jonnu Smith, according to CBS Sports’ Cody Benjamin.

Another familiar name that has hovered over this speculation for weeks: Allen Lazard. The wideout followed Rodgers from the Green Bay Packers to the New York Jets and could be on the move again if the Jets decide to pivot.

If the Steelers want to roll the dice, Christian Watson could be an interesting gamble. Despite missing time in every season since entering the league, the Packers receiver is extremely effective when healthy. With rookies Matthew Golden and Savion Williams earning reps in Green Bay, they might be open to dealing Watson, especially as he recovers from an ACL tear.

Romeo Doubs, another Rodgers-era Packer, is healthy and might fit more seamlessly. He has flashed in stretches and has previously grumbled about his role in Green Bay’s offense. A reunion in Pittsburgh could offer the reset both sides need.

Keenan Allen, meanwhile, remains unsigned. He is no longer a burner at 33, but he is crafty, reliable, and would give Rodgers a trusted underneath option.

Last but not least, Cole Kmet might be overlooked in Chicago following the Bears’ investment of a top pick in Colston Loveland. If available, he would offer Pittsburgh a more attainable pairing alongside Pat Freiermuth.

It’s clear the Pittsburgh’s offense isn’t set in stone with training camp set to kick off July 24.
