Steelers’ Division Rival Makes Splash Signing To Bolster Defense

The Ravens added to their secondary

Aaron Rodgers’ life just got a little bit harder.

The Baltimore Ravens agreed to a deal with cornerback Jaire Alexander on Wednesday, as announced by the team. Alexander was released by the Green Bay Packers after the two sides couldn’t agree on a reworked contract.

The two-time Pro-Bowler has been injured for each of the last two seasons and appeared in 14 games. He’s been effective in those games, but health issues caused the Packers to want to rework his deal.

ProFootballFocus graded Alexander a 75.2 for 2024, ranking him 25th among cornerbacks. He’s only 28 years old and should still have his athleticism when he’s healthy. He joins Marlon Humphrey and Kyle Hamilton in what should be a strong defensive unit for Baltimore.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Alexander turned down more money from another team in order to play with his former college teammate and current Ravens quarterback, Lamar Jackson. The deal is reportedly worth $4 million for one year and includes incentives.

The star cornerback is known for his ability to shadow an opponent’s best receiver so he’ll likely square off with Steelers wideout DK Metcalf. Metcalf previously listed Alexander as one of the most difficult cornerbacks to play against, although that was prior to Alexander’s health issues.

The two rivals play their first game Dec. 7 when the Steelers travel to Baltimore.
