The Steelers reportedly were in the mix for star wide receiver Chris Godwin right around the same time they traded for DK Metcalf.
Godwin himself confirmed it when speaking to The Athletic’s Dan Pompei.
“… But four other teams wanted Godwin, with the Patriots and Steelers at the forefront, according to Godwin,” Pompei wrote in a story published Monday.
Godwin ultimately opted to remain in Tampa Bay because he didn’t want to move his family from the only place he’s called home in his eight-year career. In doing so, the 29-year-old turned down an offer from the Patriots which would have paid him $30 million annually on a multi-year deal.
Godwin did not reveal what the Steelers offered.

The Steelers acquired Metcalf from the Seattle Seahawks on March 9 while first reports of Godwin’s decision came during the legal tampering period one day later. Pittsburgh also traded wide receiver George Pickens to the Dallas Cowboys this offseason.
