When Aaron Rodgers officially joined the Pittsburgh Steelers, NFL fans circled an enticing clash against Jordan Love and the Green Bay Packers.
Rodgers will play his former team when the Steelers host the Packers on “Sunday Night Football” on Oct. 26. After spending three seasons behind Rodgers on Green Bay’s depth chart, Love will get a chance to go up against his mentor in primetime.
Love looks forward to facing his former Packers teammate.
“It’s going to be fun. It’s going to be awesome. I’m excited for it,” Love told Wisconsin’s Channel 3000 on Friday. “I can’t wait to be on different sides, meeting up, and I know we’ll talk pre-game, things like that. And hopefully we can exchange jerseys after.”
Like most NFL observers, Love saw the constant chatter linking Rodgers to Pittsburgh. While he wasn’t shocked Rodgers signed a one-year contract, he is happy to see the 41-year-old quarterback eschew retirement for another season.

“I was excited for him, that he was obviously coming back and going to be playing,” Love said. “There were also some rumors that he might be done, so just knowing he’s going to keep playing, that’s pretty awesome.”
The Packers signaled the end of the Rodgers era when they drafted Love with the No. 26 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. However, Rodgers responded with back-to-back MVP campaigns.
Much like his own experience stuck behind Brett Favre, Rodgers blocked Love’s path to playing time. However, Love said he had “a great relationship” with the future Hall of Famer before the first-rounder took control of Green Bay’s offense in 2023.
“I appreciate definitely the way A-Rod handled being in that situation, and I think a big part of it — which he told me — was he knew how it was for him being in that same position, and the things that he went through and the way the situation might’ve been handled (differently),” Love recalled. “I think his perspective was, ‘I’m trying to go about this a little bit differently,’ which I think was awesome.”

Love likely isn’t the only one excited about Rodgers and the Steelers playing the Packers in Week 8.
