The Pittsburgh Pirates enjoyed quite an afternoon on Saturday. Not only did they pick up a hard-fought 2-1 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies, but they also revealed their 2025 Hall of Fame class.
After earning a walk-off win on Friday night, Pittsburgh managed to overcome a solo home run from Kyle Schwarber in the first inning to hold Philadelphia scoreless the rest of the way out. Andrew McCutchen would tie the game in the bottom of the first with an RBI single, while Henry Davis would provide the winning run when he hit a solo home run in the seventh inning.
Along the way, the Pirates revealed who would be inducted into their team Hall of Fame. The three-member class will consist of outfielder Kiki Cuyler, pitcher Vernon Law, and outfielder Al Oliver.
Of this group, Oliver played the most recently, having retired back in 1985. He spent 10 seasons with Pittsburgh, posting a .296 batting average while smacking 135 home runs and driving in 717 runs. Oliver’s consistent excellence for the Pirates made him a franchise legend fans still remember to this day. After finding out he was part of this prestigious group, Oliver sent a heartwarming message on social media.
“I am blessed to receive the honor of being inducted into the Pittsburgh Pirates Hall of Fame, with this class of greats!” Oliver said in a post on X. “I want to thank the Pirates Organization and Voting committee for this great recognition! See you at PNC in August!!”

A member of Pittsburgh’s 1971 World Series team, Oliver finished his career with seven All-Star selections and three Silver Slugger Awards.
Law spent his entire 16-year career with the Pirates, winning 162 games while posting a 3.77 earned run average and striking out 1,092 batters. He was a two-time All-Star who helped Pittsburgh win a World Series in 1960, which also happened to be the year he won the National League Cy Young Award.
Cuyler played for the Pirates during the first seven years of his career, posting a .336 batting average with 38 home runs and 312 runs batted in. Cuyler also won a World series title with Pittsburgh back in 1925, and he finished second in the NL MVP race in 1926.
