Tanner Rainey had a memorable outing in what will likely be his final appearance for the Pittsburgh Pirates.
It’s just not a good memory.
Rainey was charged with all four runs scored by the San Diego Padres in their seventh-inning comeback on Sunday, leading to him being designated for assignment by Pittsburgh on Tuesday. Rainey finishes his stint with the franchise with a 10.57 ERA across 11 total appearances.
The Pirates picked up utility man Ronny Simon off waivers from the Miami Marlins in a corresponding move, adding him to the active roster and sending him to Triple-A Indianapolis.
Simon, who stands at a diminutive 5-foot-8 and weighs 150 pounds, was signed by the Marlins this winter to a minor league contract after a solid campaign in Triple-A Durham. Miami called him up after a fast start for Triple-A Jacksonville, where he hit .356 in 15 games, playing him in 19 games before designating him for assignment.

Simon also had a rough go of it against the Padres, being left emotional on the field after making four errors playing second base in the first four innings of the game on May 27.
