The Pittsburgh Steelers reportedly have a contract offer on the table for linebacker T.J. Watt.
It’s just probably not what he’s looking for…
“I’m under the belief that there is a contract offer on the table right now, which is pretty significant.” Steelers insider Mak Kaboly said on the ‘Kaboly and Mack’ podcast, as transcribed by Nick Farabaugh of PennLive. “It’s probably not what (Watt) thinks it is.”
Watt has been away from organized team activities, clearly hoping for a new deal. Steelers general manager Omar Khan said the team hopes to see the star pass-rusher finish his career with the club, but it might not be in the cards if the player is hoping to top Myles Garrett’s massive contract extension with the Cleveland Browns.
Watt finished last season with 11.5 sacks, the third-lowest total of his career and the lowest he’s ever had in a full season. Pittsburgh would be silly to think it would have the same upside without him, though, which makes the negotiations somewhat difficult.
