Pro Bowler’s Agent Makes Desires Clear Amid Steelers Rumors

Pittsburgh reportedly looked into the idea of a splash trade

The Steelers reportedly looked into upgrading their pass-catching corps, but they might have to look elsewhere beyond South Beach.

Pittsburgh reportedly was interested in trading for Jonnu Smith. That potential deal would reunite the Pro Bowl tight end with offensive coordinator Arthur Smith, who coached the 29-year-old with the Atlanta Falcons in 2023.

However, Jonnu Smith’s agent Drew Rosenhaus noted the veteran pass-catcher has no interest in leaving the Miami Dolphins.

“That’s his first choice,” Rosenhaus said on WSVN, via Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, per Pro Football Talk. “This is where he lives in the off-season. He had a record-breaking season last year. It was the best season ever for a Miami Dolphin tight end. … Hopefully, everything works out where he can stay in Miami.”

Smith is set to make $4.8 million in the final year of his contract. Rosenhaus expressed his client’s desire to sign a new deal, and the desire to stay with Mike McDaniel makes sense, especially if Tyreek Hill departs this offseason.

Jonnu Smith might respect Arthur Smith as a coach, but the tight end would have a higher value in McDaniel’s offense. Of course, the Steelers could present the Dolphins with a tempting offer. However, it seems likely they’ll need to find another situation to take advantage of to give whoever will be under center a solid option.
