Ex-Pirates All-Star Announces Retirement From Baseball

Josh Harrison called it quits on Saturday

Josh Harrison officially announced his retirement from baseball on Saturday.

Harrison, who spent eight seasons with the Pittsburgh Pirates from 2011-2018, posted the announcement to X.

“Thank you for helping shape me, humble me, and give me a platform to grow, not just as a player, but as a man,” Harrison said, thanking the game of baseball. “I’m blessed to have been a 2x All-Star and to play for as long as I did, but I never sought to prove people wrong, only to prove myself right in my beliefs. With that being said, future players don’t get other people’s expectations of you limit you from reaching your full potential. Put in the work and go get what you deserve.”

The Pirates found an unlikely star when they acquired the undersized infielder in a summer trade with the Chicago Cubs in 2009, seeing him blossom into a franchise favorite and two-time All-Star across a stint in which he slashed .277/.317/.408 with 52 home runs and 269 runs batted in.

Harrison also spent time with the Detroit Tigers, Washington Nationals, Oakland Athletics, Chicago White Sox and Philadelphia Phillies to round out his career — with his last game coming on July 30, 2023.
