Penguins Legend Linked To Insane Stanley Cup Stat

Jaromir Jagr has had a lot of teammates in his career

The Pittsburgh Penguins have not won a Stanley Cup since capturing back-to-back titles in the 2015-16 and 2016-17 campaigns, but one franchise legend dominates an insane stat surrounding the most coveted trophy in sports.

In the pantheon of hockey greatness, Jaromir Jagr’s legacy continues to loom over the Stanley Cup Final with a streak spanning over 45 seasons.

Starting in 1980, at least one of Jagr’s former teammates has competed in the Stanley Cup Final, even though the Czech legend didn’t make his NHL debut until 1990 with the Penguins.

Islanders icon Bryan Trottier began the streak by winning four consecutive Stanley Cups with the Islanders from 1980 to 1983. He shared a locker room with Jagr as a member of the Penguins in the early 1990s. Trottier and Jagr won the Cup together in 1991 and 1992, Jagr’s first two seasons in the NHL.

Jarg played 1,733 games across 24 seasons with nine different franchises, making his list of former teammates one of the longest the league has ever seen. Even though he hung up his skates at the end of the 2017-18 season, Jagr’s former teammates have continued the legacy — including the upcoming series between the Florida Panthers and Edmonton Oilers beginning June 4.

Three players competing for the Stanley Cup have suited up alongside Jagr in his career: Florida forwards Aleksander Barkov with the Panthers and Brad Marchand with the Boston Bruins, and Edmonton defenseman Brett Kulak with the Calgary Flames.

Time will only tell how long the list will continue, considering Jagr also has players he’s skated with on the international stage.
