Pittsburgh Steelers running back Kaleb Johnson doesn’t lack confidence.
Johnson, in his first full-length interview with the team’s in-house staff, described himself by evoking the names of two elite running backs of recent memory — which is quite the way to introduce yourself as a rookie.
“I feel like I’m a versatile back. I could be a Derrick Henry back, or I could be a Dalvin Cook back,” Johnson said. “I feel like that’s what separates me from a lot of backs in the league and in this class that I came into, because I just feel like, you know, overall. I feel like I’m a fast back, and I could be a strong back, also catch the ball in the backfield and be reliable.”
Pittsburgh will take it!
Johnson, who totaled 1,725 all-purpose yards and 23 touchdowns in 2024, will join a competition-filled running back room — looking to take starting reps from the likes of Jaylen Warren, Kenneth Gainwell and recent addition Trey Sermon. It’s a hefty group, but if anyone has the ability to become a true bellcow, it’s Johnson.
