Aaron Rodgers and the Steelers have been linked in rumors for months now. Pittsburgh probably is the only team that could offer the legendary quarterback a starting role at this point, and if the sides don’t reach an agreement, the outlook on the 2025 season for Mike Tomlin’s side is pretty terrible.
But as of Monday morning, Rodgers remained an NFL free agent. So, what’s the holdup?
Ian O’Connor, author of “Out of the Darkness: The Mystery of Aaron Rodgers,” appeared on 93.7 The Fan on Friday and provided a potential theory about why the four-time MVP hasn’t signed a contract in the Steel City yet.
“I just think verbally, behind the scenes, not that he guaranteed it, but he’s told (the Steelers), ‘Listen, I’m gonna play for you. I just don’t want to go there and then miss part of mandatory minicamp because of my personal issues,'” O’Connor said, as transcribed by Sports Illustrated. “I’m pretty sure they’re gonna be solved by the end of May, at least in my satisfaction where I can give you my all.’ So that’s where I think it is.”
O’Connor took his theory to the next level by predicting Rodgers will be “in uniform” for Pittsburgh on June 10 when the storied franchise opens mandatory minicamp. If that expectation comes to fruition, it will provide a sigh of relief to Steelers fans who are dreading the thought of a full season quarterbacked by Mason Rudolph.
