What Steelers Reportedly Need To Offer Saints In Chris Olave Trade

It would need to be a convincing package for Pittsburgh to land Olave

The Pittsburgh Steelers could have a replacement for George Pickens after trading the wideout earlier this month.

That replacement just isn’t on the roster yet, though.

PennLive’s Nick Farabaugh reported this past Friday that the Steelers are interested in obtaining Saints star Chris Olave and even gave New Orleans a “due diligence call” regarding trading for the 24-year-old wide receiver.

Farabaugh followed up on his reporting Sunday with what it would take for the Steelers to land Olave.

“The trade cost for Olave would not be light, either,” Farabaugh wrote. “League sources had a consensus that it would take at least a Day 2 pick, likely a second-round pick, for the Saints to part ways with Olave before his fourth season, if they even considered trading him. Given the Saints have no reason or desire to move Olave, the cost is likely higher than that.”

Olave played in only eight games in 2024 as two concussions sustained a month apart brought his season to an end in early November. The Ohio State product, who put together back-to-back 1,000-yard receiving seasons to begin his NFL career, finished the campaign with 32 receptions on 44 targets for 400 yards and one touchdown.

The Steelers have a good deal of draft capital — they picked up a 2026 third-round pick in the deal for Pickens — that they could part with to try to complete a trade for Olave. But it would have to be an impressive package of picks to convince the Saints to trade one of their best offensive players.

In the meantime, Steelers fans will have to daydream about what an offense with Olave, DK Metcalf and Aaron Rodgers would look like.
