Steelers Rumors: This Wideout ‘Name To Watch’ After George Pickens Trade

Calvin Austin III is appreciated by those inside the building

Calvin Austin III is among those in the Steelers receiver room who should benefit from Pittsburgh’s blockbuster trade.

A fourth-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, Austin figures to see more snaps with George Pickens headed to the Dallas Cowboys. And while the 5-foot-9, 162-pound Austin doesn’t possess the same physical playstyle of Pickens, he has elite speed (4.32 40-yard dash at 2022 NFL Scouting Combine) that could complement DK Metcalf on the outside.

Austin apparently has plenty of fans inside the building.

“The Steelers think more highly of Calvin Austin III than people realize,” Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer wrote in a column published Monday. “He’d be a name to watch with (George) Pickens gone.”

Austin is coming off a season in which he caught 36 of his 58 targets for 548 yards and four touchdowns. Obviously, that doesn’t represent the same production Pickens had, but Austin’s 15.2 yards per reception is nothing to scoff at.

The Steelers also have veteran Robert Woods and 2024 third-round pick Roman Wilson competing for receiver snaps.
