The Pittsburgh Pirates are 1-0 in the Don Kelly era as the club’s new manager directed the ballclub to a win over the Atlanta Braves Friday night at PNC Park.
Pittsburgh struggled offensively through the first quarter of the season. The Pirates already have two producing starting pitchers in Paul Skenes and Andrew Heaney. If Kelly can get enough out of the offense in the coming weeks, the Pirates have a chance to turn around a last-place start with a notable prospect addition.
Bubba Chandler continues to dominate in Triple-A Indianapolis to the tune of a 2-1 record and a 2.25 ERA in seven starts. He can add significant production to an already capable rotation and his MLB debut should be as anticipated as any in baseball this season.
To get the Pirates going, it’s up to the bats in the coming weeks.
