George Pickens wasn’t a malcontent behind the scenes in Pittsburgh like some believed.
Well, at least according to NFL insider Peter Schrager.
Schrager appeared on ESPN’s “Get Up” on Wednesday morning, shortly after it was reported the Steelers traded George Pickens to the Cowboys for a third-round pick and Day 3 pick swap. Schrager offered intel into Pickens’ behavior behind the scenes, something the wide receiver has been criticized for in the past.
“I would like to correct some people. Some people think that he is a diva or he’s cantankerous,” Schrager said. “I’ve talked to the Steelers folks. George Pickens is demonstrative on the field, but he is not an un-coachable player. In fact, he does have a great way about him in the locker room and is very well liked in Pittsburgh.”
Schrager’s report surfaced just a few days after NFL insider James Palmer reported it was “not going well” behind the scenes for Pickens and the Steelers.

Pickens’ on-field behavior and well-documented frustration over a lack of targets are responsible for such a narrative. Perhaps he’ll be able to improve that outlook when he lands with Dak Prescott’s Cowboys, who reportedly were involved in trade calls for Pickens dating back to the NFL draft.
