Pirates’ Derek Shelton Offers Blunt Assessment Of Offense

Pittsburgh struggles to score runs

The Pittsburgh Pirates dropped Sunday’s series finale in a 4-0 loss to the San Diego Padres.

Pittsburgh has struggled to put pressure on the opposition. The Pirates have not scored more than four runs in a game since April 22 in a 9-3 win over the Los Angeles Angels. The manager knows that has to change for his group to take the next step in the National League Central.

“Offensively, we need to be better,” Derek Shelton told reporters Sunday, per SNP’s postgame coverage. “We haven’t been consistent. We haven’t been as good as we can be. … Right now, we don’t have a formula and we’ve got to figure it out.”

The Pirates and the St. Louis Cardinals start a three-game series Monday night at Busch Stadium.
