Steelers Release Short-Term Defender Following NFL Draft

Thomas Rush was cut Wednesday

Thomas Rush wasn’t given much time to stick with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Rush, who signed a reserve/futures contract with the Steelers back in January, was released just days after the conclusion of the 2025 NFL Draft. Rush spent the 2023 season on the Tennessee Titans’ practice squad after being signed as an undrafted free agent out of Minnesota, before being released during final roster cuts in August.

Rush will be subject to waivers.

Pittsburgh made several defensive additions via the draft, including on-ball linebacker Jack Sawyer and off-ball linebacker Carson Bruener.

Sawyer will join T.J. Watt, Alex Highsmith, Nick Herbig, Jeremiah Moon, Eku Leota and Julius Welschof as pass-rushers competing for a spot in training camp.
