Steelers Coach Gushes Over ‘Unbelievable’ Jack Sawyer Pick

Sawyer drew rave reviews from Teryl Austin

The Pittsburgh Steelers made quite the value selection on Saturday, picking up Ohio State defensive lineman Jack Sawyer with the 123rd pick of the 2025 NFL Draft.

It’s safe to say his new play-caller was excited.

“This guy is really good, tough,” Steelers defensive coordinator Teryl Austin said, per team-provided transcript. “Unbelievable intangibles. Football character. He also has a knack for making plays when you need. You see him make a lot of big plays at crunch. It tells me he is a guy who is going to show up when you need him.

“Unbelievable across the board. No holes about who he is and what he is about. I think he will fit in nicely in our room. When you have a guy who has all of the qualities he has, and the intangibles, and winning attitude, those things are hard to pass up.”

Are we sure this wasn’t a first-round pick?

Sawyer appeared in 53 career games at Ohio State, finishing with 138 total tackles, 20 sacks and 25.5 tackles for a loss. The Steelers will also appreciate his ability to be productive when he isn’t getting after the ball carrier, as he also had 11 passes defensed, six forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries and one interception.

How do you feel about the pick, Pittsburgh?
