Some Steelers fans might not have thought Pittsburgh nailed its first-round pick Thursday night.
There surely were some Steel City supporters out there who would’ve preferred to see the storied franchise use the 21st overall pick on a quarterback like Shedeur Sanders. And even if you wanted to see Mike Tomlin and company focus on defense in Round 1, the Derrick Harmon selection might not have been initially inspiring since a pre-draft rumor claimed the Oregon product is dealing with a shoulder issue.
However, Harmon tried to vanish those concerns Thursday night after he became the de facto successor to Cam Heyward.
“I’m fully up, ready to go,” Harmon told reporters, per ESPN. “I don’t have (any) concerns. I’m ready to get to work.”
Steelers brass, including head coach Mike Tomlin and general manager Omar Khan, clearly weren’t worried about Harmon’s status. Tomlin was “really added” to add a promising player who he believes has “Steeler DNA.”
