NFL Rumors: Discouraging Update on Steelers-Aaron Rodgers Talks

There doesn't appear to be an end in sight for the Rodgers saga

Aaron Rodgers hadn’t decided on his NFL future on the penultimate day of the 2025 NFL Draft, and the Steelers need to figure out how best to proceed.

Last Thursday, Rodgers broke his silence and offered nothing close to an update. Rather, the 41-year-old teased retirement while enjoying his time on the “Pat McAfee Show.” The future Hall of Famer’s public comments came after he met with Pittsburgh’s top brass, and patience wore thin among the fan base. But has Rodgers privately spoken with the Steelers? According to The Athletic’s Dianna Russini on Wednesday, no.

“Sources tell me Pittsburgh has not received further updates from the four-time MVP following his ‘Pat McAfee Show’ appearance last Thursday, in which he said he was ‘open to anything and attached to nothing’ while he continued to focus on off-field matters,” Russini wrote in a column. “Recently, my colleague Mike Silver spoke to Rodgers’ former Packers and Jets teammate and current Ram Davante Adams about his friend’s next move. He believes Rodgers still wants to play football.”

That’s all fine and well from Adams, but Rodgers does things his way and only he knows what he wants for his future. That decision might come after the 2025 NFL Draft, which would leave the Steelers in a tricky spot.

The idea of Pittsburgh drafting a quarterback with the No. 21 pick gained steam, especially as Shedeur Sanders’ draft stock continues to fall. Rodgers wouldn’t preclude the Steelers from drafting a quarterback, but it would raise question marks regarding how general manager Omar Khan is building the roster.

Obviously, the sooner Rodgers decides on a team, the easier it is for the Steelers. But Rodgers never is one to make things easy for anyone outside of himself.
