NFL Draft Rumors: How Shedeur Sanders Surprised Steelers

Could Sanders fall to Pittsburgh?

Quarterback buzz grew heading into the 2025 NFL Draft, and the Pittsburgh Steelers could get into the mix.

The Steelers still are waiting on Aaron Rodgers to decide what he wants to do for his NFL career, but Pittsburgh could address its quarterback needs in the draft. It’s done its due diligence by meeting with the top prospects, including Shedeur Sanders.

Mike Tomlin reportedly is high on the Colorado product, and the head coach apparently wasn’t alone in his opinion after the visit with Sanders.

“I can tell you, they came away from that meeting impressed. They liked him a lot more than they thought they would have,” ESPN’s Adam Schefter said on his podcast Thursday.

Draft evaluators are mixed on Sanders. He could get drafted as high as No. 2 overall. However, not many analysts gave the quarterback a first-round grade, and it’s possible he falls outside of the top 10. It would be an interesting opportunity for the Steelers to draft Sanders if he fell to No. 21.

There are other quarterbacks for the Steelers to consider, but Pittsburgh could find itself in an opportunistic situation if Sanders isn’t selected in the top 20.
