The Steelers were just granted more offseason competition.
The New Orleans Saints could be in need of a quarterback after it was reported veteran Derek Carr is dealing with a significant shoulder injury and could miss the 2025 campaign. With first-year head coach Kellen Moore taking over at the helm, it feels unlikely the Saints would proceed with their uninspiring quarterback room if Carr is, in fact, sidelined for the season.
How does that impact Pittsburgh?
The Saints hold the ninth overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, far superior than the Steelers (No. 21). If New Orleans feels top prospect Shedeur Sanders is a solid option in the short- and long-term, then the Colorado product feels unlikely to slide to Pittsburgh.
The Steelers reportedly met with Sanders last week and experts think Pittsburgh could draft him if he’s on the board.

It’s also possible the Aaron Rodgers-Steelers partnership was dealt a blow. Could the Saints target the best-available free agent, despite the fact it wouldn’t be a long-term solution? Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio floated that hypothetical and believes it’s only a matter of time before reports link Rodgers to the Saints.
Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past month, you know the Steelers have been viewed as the favorite to sign Rodgers. But could he opt to play indoors in New Orleans with an offensive-minded head coach rather than Pittsburgh? It’s possible.
All told, it’s fair to believe the Steelers will be paying close attention to any and all developments on Carr.
