Former Steelers Cornerback Expected To Announce Retirement

Patrick Peterson played one season with Pittsburgh

Former Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Patrick Peterson is hanging up his cleats, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Friday night.

Peterson spent the 2023 season with the Steelers after a two-year stint with the Minnesota Vikings. He started 16 of 17 games played. He was released last offseason and has not played in the NFL since.

The 34-year-old Peterson was drafted by the Cardinals with the fifth overall pick in 2011 and played his first 10 seasons with the Cardinals. He was a Pro Bowler in each of his first eight seasons and a member of the NFL’s 2010s All-Decade team. Peterson will retire as a Cardinal on Monday in Arizona, per Schefter.

Peterson appeared to confirm the news on his personal Instagram account.

“It was nothing like taking flight with the bird gang on Sundays. See you next week @azcardinals,” he wrote.

Peterson was one of the best defensive players of his generation and will be a strong candidate for the Pro Football Hall of Fame when he becomes eligible for the Class of 2029.
