Yasmani Grandal is the newest member of the Boston Red Sox.
Well, kinda.
Grandal, 36, signed a minor league deal with the club on Thursday, according to multiple reports. It’s a late start for the former All-Star, as he surprisingly went unsigned last offseason after a short stint with the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Boston needs all the help it can get behind the dish, as starting catcher Connor Wong went on the injured list with an injury to his hand Monday. Carlos Narváez and Blake Sabol are currently filling the void, though the latter doesn’t seem long for the big leagues after a disastrous debut in his new hosiery.
Grandal will report to Triple-A Worcester and will earn a $1.35 million base salary if he makes the major league roster, according to MassLive’s Sean McAdam.
