Penguins’ Kyle Dubas Named Team Canada GM For IIHF World Championship

Team Canada begins the tournament May 10

Pittsburgh Penguins general manager Kyle Dubas will lead Team Canada in the same capacity in the 2025 IIHF World Championship, Hockey Canada announced on Thursday.

Dubas served as Canada’s associate GM in last year’s World Championship and the director of player personnel for Canada at the 4 Nations Face-off this season.

“Kyle is an excellent general manager, and his recent experience at the 4 Nations Face-Off and last year’s men’s Worlds will be beneficial in building and leading Canada’s National Men’s Team as it looks to reclaim gold at the IIHF World Championship,” Canada’s National Men’s Team executive director Doug Armstrong said in a statement. “Kyle has great relationships with players and staff throughout the NHL, and as a member of management group for the 2026 Olympics, we are confident he is the best person to lead Team Canada in Stockholm and Herning this May.”

Dennis Bonvie of the Boston Bruins, Gregory Campbell of the Florida Panthers, Andrew Cogliano of the Colorado Avalanche, and Jason Spezza of the Penguins will join Dubas to assist in player evaluation and selection.

The international tournament will take place May 9-25 in Stockholm, Sweden, and Herning, Denmark. Canada will open the tournament against Slovenia on May 10 at 6:20 a.m. ET. It will also take on Latvia, France, Austria, Slovakia, Finland and Sweden in the preliminary round before the tournament concludes with the medal games May 25.
