Pirates Pitchers Stand Out In Extra-Innings Victory

Mitch Keller started with 7 1/3 solid frames

The Pittsburgh Pirates earned an energizing extra-innings win over the St. Louis Cardinals Wednesday with a 2-1 victory in 13 innings.

Mitch Keller started and turned in 7 1/3 solid innings with just four hits and six strikeouts. Pittsburgh did not allow an earned run all afternoon and the bullpen did its job with 5 2/3 durable innings. Newcomer Justin Lawrence finished the line with 1 2/3 innings and a pair of strikeouts to set up Joey Bart’s walk-off hit.

The strong effort on the mound ensured a series win for the Pirates over the Cardinals, who came to Pittsburgh after the Boston Red Sox swept them over the weekend at Fenway Park.
