The Pittsburgh Penguins are bringing back a familiar face for their matchup with the Chicago Blackhawks on Tuesday.
Matt Nieto was recalled from AHL-Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on an emergency basis, the team announced.
Nieto, 32, began his season a month late as he recovered from a pair of knee surgeries last offseason — initially returning to the AHL before getting a mid-November call to the NHL. The Penguins primarily used him as an extra forward, though minuscule production led to a waiver placement and assignment to the minors in February
Pittsburgh just needs bodies to round out its final four games, though, as injuries likely will force forwards Tommy Novak, Philip Tomasino, and Bokondji Imama, as well as defenseman Pierre-Olivier Joseph, to the shelf.
Nieto likely will be the extra man on Tuesday.
