The Pittsburgh Steelers aren’t done with their meet-and-greets before the 2025 NFL Draft.
Pittsburgh already hosted quarterback prospects Jaxson Dart from Ole Miss and Louisville’s Tyler Shough, and the organization added a third and perhaps most intriguing name to that list: Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders. The Steelers are set to meet with Sanders this week, according to Jordan Schultz of FOX Sports, with two weeks remaining before draft night.
Since Pittsburgh has already departed from quarterbacks Justin Fields and Russell Wilson, the organization is wise to explore all of its options. Steelers general manager Omar Khan explained that the team will lean into the draft to further explore ways to bolster the roster, although there won’t be a specific positional focus.
“For us, that’s really important, trying to identify the right players for us, the right people for us,” Khan said, per team-provided video. “… (I’ve) been at some really good schools and seen some great players, and really met some great, great young men that could help us. Having that 1-on-1 time with the guys and really getting to know them, it’s hard to put a value on that and we’re fortunate that we get out there and spend some time with these guys and it’s not done. We still have 30 visits that are coming, we have the opportunity to do Zooms with players, which we plan to take advantage of.”
The Steelers aren’t in the best position to land Sanders, even if Khan and head coach Mike Tomlin are drawn by the 23-year-old. Pittsburgh currently owns the No. 21 overall pick, and it’s unlikely that Sanders will be available once Khan and company are on the clock. Sanders has all the hype a college prospect could ask for, having already met with the Tennessee Titans, Cleveland Browns and New York Giants.

So, to call Pittsburgh’s hopes of drafting Sanders at No. 21 a pipe dream would be an understatement.
Sanders, the son of Pro Football Hall of Famer Deion Sanders, could fall within the top three picks — behind Miami quarterback Cam Ward and former Colorado teammate Travis Hunter, a wideout/cornerback. None of the quarterback prospects Khan and Tomlin have met with are in the same hype class as Sanders, and it’s unusual for the Steelers to make an effort to meet with prospects beyond their reach ahead of the draft.
Whether or not Pittsburgh’s visit from Sanders signals something bigger at play or not remains undetermined.
The Steelers have signed veteran quarterback Mason Rudolph and remain in the running for free-agent Aaron Rodgers.
