Pirates General Manager Issues Injury Update On Top-Five Prospect

Nick Yorke is dealing with shoulder soreness

The Pirates are playing it safe with one of the best players in their farm system.

Nick Yorke, ranked Pittsburgh’s fifth-best prospect by MLB.com, was placed on the seven-day injured list last Friday. The designation arrived after Yorke played four games with the Triple-A Indianapolis Indians and hit .333 with three doubles and an RBI over 15 total at-bats.

Ben Cherington joined 93.7 The Fan in Pittsburgh on Sunday and revealed Yorke had been dealing with soreness in his right shoulder since the end of spring training. The Pirates general manager explained the organization chose to put Yorke on the IL since it didn’t want him to play “compromised,” and he’s expected to be activated soon.

Pittsburgh acquired Yorke in a late July 2024 trade with the Red Sox, who landed right-hander Quinn Priester in the deal. The 2020 17th overall pick played 11 games with the Pirates last season in which he logged two home runs, two stolen bases and five RBI to go along with a .216 batting average.
