NFL Rumors: Steelers Didn’t Make Trade Offer For Young Quarterback

Pittsburgh didn't extended itself further than showing interest

The Steelers might’ve showed interest in Joe Milton III, but it apparently stopped there.

The New England Patriots traded the physically gifted gunslinger to the Dallas Cowboys last week. The Cowboys were the only team to extend an offer to the Patriots, according to Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer.

The insight from Breer might be noteworthy to those in the Steel City given it was reported Pittsburgh poked around.

FOX Sports’ Jordan Schultz reported the Steelers were among teams that “showed interest” in Milton. Other teams included the Las Vegas Raiders, Philadelphia Eagles, New York Giants and Cowboys, per Schultz.

Dallas traded a fifth-round pick in exchange for Milton and a seventh-rounder. All told, the Cowboys dropped 46 spots in the 2025 NFL Draft and acquired Dak Prescott’s new backup, who has three more seasons left on his rookie contract.

Mason Rudolph currently sits atop Pittsburgh’s depth chart after Justin Fields (Jets) and Russell Wilson (Giants) left this offseason. The Steelers, though, continue to be viewed as the favorite for Aaron Rodgers.
