Could Aaron Rodgers’ Longtime Teammate Follow QB To Steelers?

Allen Lazard has played all seven of his NFL season with Rodgers

If Aaron Rodgers lands in the Steel City, there’s a chance he won’t come alone.

Rodgers brought a few former teammates with him to the New York Jets after he departed the Green Bay Packers, including wide receiver Allen Lazard. Fellow wideout Davante Adams joined the four-time NFL MVP during the 2024 campaign, as well.

Could a similar trend play out with the Pittsburgh Steelers?

ESPN’s Rich Cimini questioned whether Lazard could try to follow Rodgers again this offseason. Lazard remains under contract with the Jets but appears to be working through a restructure, which reportedly will require a significant pay cut.

“Lazard could be waiting to see if a reunion with free agent quarterback Aaron Rodgers is possible before deciding on the Jets’ proposal,” Cimini wrote Sunday.

Lazard spent all of his first seven NFL seasons with Rodgers, five in Green Bay and the last two in New York. His production fell off in the Meadowlands after he recorded career highs in catches (60), targets (100) and yards (788) in 2022 with the Packers.

Pittsburgh remains the favorite to sign Rodgers, despite the fact it’s taken longer than those inside the organization would’ve expected. If Rodgers does join Mike Tomlin’s side, Lazard could make some sense.

The 29-year-old wouldn’t be tasked to play as large a role in Pittsburgh with DK Metcalf and George Pickens ahead of him on the depth chart. But he’s still as familiar with Rodgers as just about anyone and likely would come cheap.
