Pirates Set Rather Specific Start Time For Home Opener

4:12 p.m. holds significance in Pittsburgh

The Pittsburgh Pirates seek a second consecutive win over an American League East team when they host the New York Yankees in the home opener at PNC Park.

Paul Skenes tossed seven solid innings Wednesday to salvage the series finale against the Tampa Bay Rays. The Pirates return home at 2-5 and hope to get rolling in front of the PNC Park crowd.

First pitch comes Friday at one of the season’s more obscure start times with pregame ceremonies on the docket with 4:12 p.m. ET as the listed start time. The time marks one of significance for the Pirates with a nod to the city’s “412” area code in a tradition with roots back to 2022.

New York’s major offseason addition Max Fried takes the ball for the Yankees while Mitch Keller gets the home opening start for the Pirates.

Friday marks the first time the Pirates host the Yankees in a home opener as Pittsburgh gets an immediate test against the reigning AL champions.
