What To Expect From Thomas Harrington’s Pirates Debut

Pittsburgh's No. 3 prospect gets the ball Tuesday

Thomas Harrington impressed during his outings during spring training and now gets to make his MLB debut for the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Pittsburgh’s No. 3 overall prospect, and No. 78 overall in baseball, per MLB Pipeline, takes the ball against the Tampa Bay Rays at their temporary home of George M. Steinbrenner Field. Harrington stood out in a spring start against the Philadelphia Phillies, much like Bubba Chandler, adding to his enhanced resume.

Harrington improved through Double-A Altoona and Triple-A Indianapolis last season with a 7-3 record, a 2.61 ERA and just under a strikeout per inning in 22 outings (21 starts). He added a cutter to strengthen his arsenal around a fastball, curveball, slider and changeup.

Harrington and the Pirates battle the Rays Tuesday night at 7:05 p.m. ET.
