Steelers owner Art Rooney II, like everyone us, didn’t expect it to take this long for Aaron Rodgers to make his decision in NFL free agency.
Rodgers has more or less held the Steelers hostage this offseason with Pittsburgh putting all of its eggs in the quarterback’s basket. Rooney told reporters at the annual league meeting in Palm Beach, Fla., that the Steelers won’t wait around forever but will hold off a bit longer.
In the meantime, Rooney believes the Steelers are in an advantageous position.
“We keep hearing that he’s, I guess, headed in our direction,” Rooney told reporters Tuesday, per ESPN’s Brooke Pryor. “And so that seems to be all signs are positive so far.”
Rooney also said it was a “good sign” that Rodgers and Steelers wide receiver DK Metcalf met up over the weekend. Metcalf would be one of Rodgers’ trusted targets in the Steel City after an offseason trade and big payday.
