Pittsburgh’s blockbuster move for one wide receiver will not lead to the trade of another, Steelers general manager Omar Khan claims.
Speaking with reporters at the annual league meeting in West Palm Beach, Fla., Khan was asked about the blockbuster trade and contract extension awarded to DK Metcalf and what it means for George Pickens.
Some have questioned if paying Metcalf $30 million annually over the next five years could mean Pickens will be traded this offseason. The 2022 second-round pick is set to enter the final year of his rookie contract.
“You need more than one receiver in this league, and we’re fortunate we have George and Calvin (Austin) and excited about what Roman (Wilson’s) going to be able to do for us,” Khan told reporters, per The Athletic’s Mike DeFabo.
Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin also faced questions about the receiver room, specifically regarding the personalities of Metcalf and Pickens.

“We’ll figure that out. But that’s not a problem, as I see it,” Tomlin told reporters, per DeFabo. “Guys that want to be significant reasons why we’re successful. Guys that have the talent to do. So I’ll stand in line for those issues.”
The 24-year-old Pickens had 174 catches for 2,841 yards and 12 touchdowns over his first three seasons in Pittsburgh.
