Mike Tomlin Details Steelers’ Meeting With QB Aaron Rodgers

Pittsburgh will continue to wait on Rodgers

Mike Tomlin and the Steelers seemingly are comfortable with seeing out the Aaron Rodgers saga to the finish.

Rodgers more or less has held Pittsburgh hostage for weeks now. The Steelers appear to be very interested in rostering the four-time NFL MVP, but he hasn’t shown the same eagerness to join the storied franchise. Rodgers has taken an exceedingly patient approach to his free agency, and it’s still very unclear what he’s going to do next.

All the while, Pittsburgh must keep a close eye on other roster-building forums, such as the open market and the draft. But even with the latter rapidly approaching, the Steelers aren’t imposing any sort of internal deadline on Rodgers.

“Not to my knowledge,” Tomlin told reporters Sunday, per ESPN. “I don’t know that we’ve approached it from a deadline perspective. Certainly, as I mentioned, you’d like to have settled circumstances, but deadlines don’t often bring that to a head.”

Tomlin also pulled back the curtain a bit on Pittsburgh’s lengthy meeting with the future Pro Hall of Famer.

“I really wanted to spend more of our time just getting to know him better and things that he values as a player and a man, and what he might be looking for with his next stop,” Tomlin told reporters.

Should Rodgers ultimately sign in the Steel City, he all but certainly would become the team’s starting quarterback. If not, the offense likely will be led by Mason Rudolph or an incoming rookie.
