Aaron Rodgers perhaps foreshadowed what is to come this past weekend.
All of the receivers Rodgers could have called up to get in a throwing session with, he decided to get in a work out with the newest Steelers star receiver.
Photos and video surfaced on social media on Monday of Rodgers throwing passes to DK Metcalf on the campus of UCLA. NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport said the session “wasn’t exactly a secret” with other NFL players training there as well. But it sure is a very interesting development in Rodgers’ free agency since he has yet to make an official decision on where he will play next season.
“This was a planned throwing session. Sounds like it went very well, from my understanding. It was lengthy,” Rapoport said on “The Pat McAfee Show.” “Look, Rodgers has his process and I think it’s probably not as fast as many people would like. This is what he needs. It might be his last stop. Probably is his last stop. Needs to make sure it’s right. If that includes, throwing with the newly acquired star receiver for the team, OK.”
Rodgers visited the Steelers on March 21, allowing Mike Tomlin and other members of the organization to get to know the four-time NFL MVP better.

The Steelers surely would love to pair Rodgers with Metcalf, who they acquired via trade from the Seattle Seahawks this offseason and then inked a massive five-year, $150 million contract extension. Pittsburgh only has Mason Rudolph and Skylar Thompson on its quarterback depth chart at the moment.
Rodgers would be a sizable upgrade over those two, and with the way things are trending, it looks like the Steelers are Rodgers’ only option to play a 21st NFL season.
“It seems to me, unless the Vikings do a complete about-face from what they’ve said publicly, that would be his only spot,” Rapoport said. “So, it feels like a matter of time. But as you probably know, getting in the head of Aaron Rodgers and trying to figure what he’s up to is difficult.”
