Three-Time Super Bowl Champ Offers Aaron Rodgers Advice On Steelers Decision

Rodgers is being very patient with his free-agent approach

All the Pittsburgh Steelers can do is wait until quarterback Aaron Rodgers comes to a free agent decision.

It’s hard to tell when that will be as Rodgers, who visited the Steelers last Friday, appears to be in no rush to commit to his next team.

But with the big moves in NFL free agency basically wrapped up at this point and the draft just over three weeks away, three-time Super Bowl champion Julian Edelman issued some advice to Rodgers regarding his patient approach.

“If I was Aaron Rodgers, I wouldn’t want to get into the same predicament as I got into with the Jets,” Edelman said on the “Dudes On Dudes podcast,” as transcribed by PennLive’s Nick Farabaugh. “You get there kind of late, you don’t really practice that much, and all of a sudden, the season comes out and we’re not looking like we need to be looking because we’re not on the same page. Wherever he’s gonna sign, I would sign as soon as possible so you can learn the players around the team that you’re gonna be playing with. If you watch last year, on the Jets, I think Week 8 on, Aaron Rodgers played pretty damn good football. That’s because he started to learn his players, I feel.”

The Steelers look ready to make the 41-year-old Rodgers their starting quarterback after Justin Fields and Russell Wilson both departed in free agency. Pittsburgh only has Mason Rudolph and Skylar Thompson on their depth chart at quarterback at the moment.

Rodgers missed almost the entire 2023 season due to a torn Achilles before completing 63% of his passes for 3,897 yards with 28 touchdowns and 11 interceptions with the New York Jets this past season.

According to Farabugh, the Steelers believe a decision from Rodgers could be coming “sooner rather than later.” The Minnesota Vikings reportedly have shown interest in the four-time NFL MVP.

In the meantime, all the Steelers can do is just continue to make their case that they are the right spot for Rodgers and just play the waiting game.
