Vikings Keep Aaron Rodgers Door Open After Steelers Visit

It sounds like Minnesota is open to having its mind changed

It seemed like a certainty that the Steelers would be Aaron Rodgers’ new home, but one of his reported suitors isn’t closing the door on the 41-year-old.

Rodgers visited Pittsburgh last week, and the meetings reportedly went well. The New York Giants reportedly also were on the four-time MVP’s list, but they signed Russell Wilson on Tuesday to pair with Jameis Winston. The Minnesota Vikings appeared to take themselves out after it was reported they weren’t going to pursue Rodgers. However, their attitude shifted Wednesday.

“A player like him is always gonna be in those conversations. But from our delineations at that time, we’re happy with where we are going forward,” Vikings general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah told reporters, per Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer. “Obviously, the caliber of player (he is), it had to be part of our conversations.”

Adofo-Mensah confirmed head coach Kevin O’Connell spoke with Rodgers, and his follow-up seemed to keep the door open for the future Hall of Fame quarterback.

“Right now … We’re happy with our (QB) room.”

From the sounds of it, the Vikings are open to having their minds changed. JJ McCarthy would be the starter if Minnesota doesn’t make a significant move. However, the signal-caller is coming off an ACL injury and came into the 2024 NFL Draft with multiple question marks.

Rodgers would be a win-now move for the Steelers and Vikings, and both franchises are at the whim of the veteran’s decision over where he wants to finish his career.
