Three Pirates Predictions For Future-Altering 2025 Season

Pittsburgh's youth movement is here

The Pittsburgh Pirates enter the 2025 season with plenty of fun talent to watch in a fairly open National League Central division. From strong starting pitching to various position changes, the Pirates have enticing storylines to create buzz before Opening Day.

With that young talent in mind, here’s three bold predictions for the Pirates in the 2025 season.

Paul Skenes Wins Pitching Triple Crown
Skenes put together a sensational rookie season following his May call-up for Pittsburgh. He started the All-Star Game and diced up opposing hitters throughout the season.

Skenes added multiple pitches to his arsenal that should allow the Pirates ace to take another step up with elite swing-and-miss ability. He’ll likely walk to a Cy Young award in the National League as well.

Bubba Chandler Wins Rookie of the Year
Chandler ended last season on a high note with a sub-2.00 ERA in seven starts at Triple-A Indianapolis. He shined in MLB’s Spring Breakout Game series and should have the talent to compete for the award if he makes enough starts in the big leagues for the Pirates.

Oneil Cruz Hits 30 Home Runs
You want bold? Let’s do bold.

Cruz hit his career high with 21 homers last season in 146 games. His position change to center field will be the early part of his season for the Pirates, but we’ll say Cruz leaps forward with greater power at the plate in 2025.
