Paul Skenes Fires Up Pirates Fans With Opening Day Message

Skenes did not allow a run Saturday

The Pittsburgh Pirates have an excellent choice for their Opening Day starter in Paul Skenes.

The 2024 All-Star made his final start of spring training Saturday afternoon against the Baltimore Orioles. Skenes tossed 3 1/3 scoreless innings for the Pirates with just one hit and one walk allowed with four strikeouts. He ends the spring strong on schedule for normal rest.

Skenes is the headliner of a youthful pitching movement for Pittsburgh. Jared Jones follows him at the MLB level with intriguing prospects in Bubba Chandler, Thomas Harrington and Hunter Barco on the way.

Skenes offered an encouraging message for Pirates fans during the SNP broadcast in Saturday’s game in his final outing before Opening Day.

“Strap in,” Skenes shared. “Get ready for it, because it’s going to be a fun year.”
