Steelers Sign Tackle Adding Extra Defensive Line Depth

Esezi Otomewo has played nine NFL games

The Pittsburgh Steelers added another big body to their defensive line by signing tackle Esezi Otomewo to a one-year contract, the club announced Wednesday.

Otomewo spent the last two seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars after being waived by the Minnesota Vikings after one season. The 26-year-old Minnesota product appeared in four games for Jacksonville in 2024 while remaining on the team’s practice squad for the rest of the season. He made two starts for the Jaguars, registering four tackles, two quarterback hits and half a sack. In three seasons, Otomewo has played in nine games, starting two. He has nine tackles, three of them solo stops and a tackle for a loss.

His best game came against the Chicago Bears in a Week 6 loss, and his final game with Jacksonville, when he had two tackles, a quarterback hit, half a sack and a special teams fumble recovery. The 6-foot-5, 280-pound defensive lineman spent the entire 2023 campaign on the Jaguars practice squad.

Otomewo joins a deep Steelers defensive group led by Cam Heyward and Keeanu Benton. Pittsburgh bolstered its depth at tackle by signing former New England Patriot Daniel Ekuale on Monday.
